Internships

 

We are currently offering 6 week, 3 month and 6 month internships for OB nurses, Certified Nurse Midwives, Student Midwives, or Doulas with on-site lodging in a private cottage.

 

Immerse yourself in a midwifery practice and gain experience in prenatal care, labor management in out-of-hospital settings, hands-on experience in intermittent fetal monitoring, experience in birthing positions other than in the birth bed, and observation of water birth techniques. Come learn how to set up and manage an independent midwifery and women's health care practice. Obtain information on billing processes. Increase your skills in annual women's physical examinations.  Gain experience with midwifery based Electronic Medical Record keeping.

 

Experience the beauty of the Big Island of Hawaii while being on-call for births. The Big Island is the location of some of the newest land of earth with an active volcano nearby. Our Birth Home, Luana Gardens is located about 17 miles from the Hilo airport and 4 miles outside Pahoa.  Our site is surrounded by a lush tropical rainforest surrounded by exotic flowers, fruit trees and is very private and quiet. The ocean, tide pools and warm pond are located about 8 short miles away. The nearby town of Pahoa is famous for its diverse population, nice dining locations, and most currently, its lava flows.

 

Internships are individually arranged and packaged based on the needs of the students. Most experience will be observation and immersion into the practice based on student experience levels, prior expressed goals and practice needs. Sign off on skills for programs such as a Certified Nurse Midwife program or the PEP process for Certified Professional Midwives need to be prearranged. Students and licensed individuals must to carry their own Malpractice insurance.  All prospective interns must carry a cell phone and  secure a vehicle while on call.

 

Program Costs:

90 hour clinic only rotation for nursing students, MSN or DNP students in Women's Health $700.00 

6 week program $1,500.00

3 month program $3,550.00

6 month program  $5,500.00 (this program is more integrative and includes hands on experience)
